February 3, 2026 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Clark County Genealogical Society, 3205 NE 52nd St, Vancouver, WA 98663, USA
Presented by Steve Aberle
Can Find A Grave Memorials be trusted for your research? Find A Grave gives any person the opportunity to create a memorial to honor our deceased. But, when you find a memorial on that site, how do you know the information presented is of high quality for genealogical purposes? This presentation focuses on ways to examine the memorials found on Find A Grave in order to make an enlightened decision on whether that material is worthy of inclusion in your own genealogy research. Practicum: Each attendee is encouraged to share with the class a Find A Grave memorial they have encountered, and all attendees will then utilize the insights and techniques contained in the presentation to interactively look through and evaluate that tree as a group.
Members Free: / non-members: $20

General Meeting - Falling Down a Rabbit Hole and Finding a Murder
General Meeting - Falling Down a Rabbit Hole and Finding a Murder
February 24, 2026 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Clark County Genealogical Society, 3205 NE 52nd St, Vancouver, WA 98663, USA
Presented by Peri Lane Muhich
In-person at the CCGS Library.
How researching one person led to an intriguing true story of a prostitute and a grifter. Genealogy research doesn’t always stay within the lines. In Falling Down a Rabbit Hole and Finding a Murder, Peri Muhich will recount how following one individual through historical records spiraled into an intriguing true-crime story involving a prostitute, a grifter, and an unexpected murder.
This talk explores how curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to dig deeper can uncover hidden lives and surprising truths—proving that family history research can be just as gripping as a detective novel.
Peri Lane Muhich has spent the last 40 years living in and exploring Oregon, Washington, Puget Sound, and Alaska. She is a historian and genealogist who teaches classes and delivers lectures that bring history and culture to life through her knowledge and passion for American heritage.
She is currently a member of the Clark County Genealogical Society, the Clark County Historical Society, the 2 Rivers History Museum, and the Fort Vancouver DAR.
