Cloud Computing, Is It For You?

How in the world could a computer possibly operate in a cloud, especially with all that water vapor? If you would like a simple tutorial explaining what all this means, want to know the benefits and the risks, and what it might cost for your computer(s) to participate, then this is the class for you

The 1940 U.S. Census

The long-awaited 1940 Census (U.S. population schedule) will be released on Monday, April 2nd. The index will NOT be available for at least six months. Come learn what will be on the form and how you can find your family without an index.

Researching in Mid-Western States

instructor: Elsie Deatherage
Elsie recently completed a week-long class on doing genealogical research in the mid-western U.S. States. Learn what resources are available to help you locate your ancestors in this part of the county. States covered will include North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.

Researching in Southern States

Tuesday, April 10, 10 a.m. to 12 noon

instructor: Lethene Parks
Doing genealogical research in southern U.S. States requires some different techniques than in many other parts of the country. Fires, floods and war took their toll on courthouse and other records to a greater extent than in other parts of the nation. Emphasis will be on research in Virginia, North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas, with some information on research in the other southern states.

Using Social Media in Genealogy

Tuesday, April 17, 10 a.m. to 12 noon

instructor: Gloria Scullin
Social media sites such as Facebook and Blogging can be a good way to share your family stories with folks living in other states. Gloria will walk you through the basics of building a Facebook account and show you a free and simple way to start your own blog through Google. You can find Gloria on Facebook.
